ABOUT THE CAUSE

I read a lot of cancer survivor's treatment stories on line, I just went back to work full time after my treatment with AML and a bone marrow transplant. It has been almost 8 long years (at 1 point having 6 months to 1 year to live) to get back to what some would call a normal life or for someone like me that is about as normal as it gets ! From diagnosed to divorced to basically homeless and being my own care taker , my words for life are "Don`t Ever Give Up ".  I am on a mission and you can help. I have organized a fund raiser called  "BAD TO THE BONE MARROW RIDE".  It is a motorcycle fund raiser that takes place on Bone Marrow Transplant Survivors Day at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

It is a Police escorted motorcycle ride with lots of really cool give always and a concert after the ride.  It took me 2 years to talk the panel at M.D. Anderson into doing this. Last years ride was great.  This years will be on Saturday June 7,2008.  It is the only motorcycle ride that take place on The University of Texas M.D. Anderson property , and that is broadcast into the hospital for all to see. This year I would like to make the donor drive one of the largest in Texas !!!!!   We would like you to be a part of it.

On 1/28/2003 I received a matched unrelated donor aka; MUD. This is the short version of the story !!  I quit counting the days in the hospital at 417 (since day 1 of treatment) and had approx. 450 blood product transfusions, been sliced and diced as I call it, hooked up to a machine for 1 year, 13 CVC`s and a mini stroke, hung out in ICU. The list goes on,,,, I would spend 3 to 5 days  a week at the hospital whether you wanted to or not . While I was at the hospital I ran into an other motorcycle rider that was going through the transplant process. I told him what I was trying to do ( had been trying to talk the hospital into this for 2 years ). Sooooooooooooo, with a little help from him and his wife the "BAD TO THE BONE MARROW RIDE" was born.  I must add that upon my hospital travels I ran into Dr. Sam.  If it wasn't for Dr. Sam and the "RIDE FOR THE ROSE" motorcycle ride, I don't think that we would have never gotten off the ground.

I do what I do , so that someday no one will every have to deal with all this @#@*&%*#%%*%# crap !!!!!
